Changing landscape of Cancer Care

The impact of the Affordable Care Act has clinical and commercial staff scrambling. While it appears that ACA is here to stay I still hear from several layers of clinicians as well as administrators that the volume model is still in play for the time being. For those healthcare systems that get it, they understand the risk management of having a patient cross their threshold two or three times as opposed to the plan that requires up to 45 visits for some courses of radiation treatment.

The opportunity for that patient to have something that would effect their satisfaction scores greatly increases the greater the number of visits.  The proposition of Value Based Purchasing is beginning to show, but it appears all sides of the issue will need to straddle the challenge and run parallel programs.   (Read More)
